Royals & Cubs Win, MLB Records Set on Monday

It was an exciting day for Cedar Valley baseball fans on Monday. The Kansas City Royals staged a thrilling comeback to keep their season alive. The Chicago Cubs set a record in their win, and five MLB Postseason records were broken.

During the four Division Series games on Monday (Oct. 12, 2015), a whopping 21 home runs were belted, which blew away the 20-year old record of 15, set back on Oct. 3, 1995. The new record for home runs by rookies in a single postseason day was also set. That new mark stands at 12 (the previous record was nine, set in 2007).

Thanks to the long ball, the previous record of runs scored in a single day fell as well. A total of 61 runs were recorded breaking the Oct 5, 2002 record of 48.

The Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals broke two records. Between the two teams, they tallied eight home runs, setting a record for a single game. The Cubs became the first team in MLB postseason history to hit six home runs in a single game. The Cubs earned the Game 3 win beating the Cardinals, 8-6.

The Kansas City Royals found themselves down four runs to start the eighth inning. KC scored five runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth to steal Game 4 from the Houston Astros. That win forced a 'winner take all' Game 5 Wednesday night at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City (7:00 PM-CT, FOX Sports 1)

On Tonight's MLB postseason schedule, there are two games, and both are possible elimination games in the two National League Division Series.

The Cubs and Cardinals play at 3:30 PM-CT in Chicago. If the Cubs win, they move on to the National League Championship Series. The nightcap features the LA Dodgers at the New York Mets (7:00 PM-CT). The Mets are one win away from advancing to the NLCS. TBS will carry both games live.
