It’s Tommy Hawk’s birthday, but kids in attendance will receive the gifts on Saturday, December 10th when the Waterloo Black Hawks host the Dubuque Fighting Saints.

That night, SCHEELS and KWWL are giving the first 500 kids age 4-12 a free youth hockey jersey when they come to the rink to cheer on the Hawks. The mostly white sweater with red trim on the sleeves, shoulders, and waist will have the Black Hawks’ logo on the front and a number 1 on the back. This will be the first time the Black Hawks have ever offered a free kids jersey, and they are expected to go quickly.

“Based on experience other teams have had with similar promotions, there will probably be quite a line by the time gates open at 6:05,” noted Black Hawks Vice President of Sales and Marketing Joe Greene. “This is something we’ve been looking forward to since the offseason when we began putting plans in place to do this.”

After the jersey giveaway, fans of all ages will enjoy watching Tommy Hawk take the ice at intermission for a game of birthday broomball against many of his mascot friends. Kids in attendance are also encouraged to have their picture taken with Santa Claus, who will be in attendance just weeks ahead of his big ride.

“We are really excited to help bring this event to Young Arena for Black Hawks fans,” said Cedar Falls SCHEELS Store Leader Adam Zupancic. “As an employee-owned family company, SCHEELS associates and management appreciate how important it is for families to have opportunities to spend quality time together, as they are able to do at Black Hawks games.”

To receive a free youth hockey jersey, kids aged 4 to 12 must be present for the game on December 10th, with one jersey presented per youth game ticket, while supplies last. The jerseys are “one size fits most.”
