Iowa High School Volleyball Rankings

Area high school volleyball teams now occupy three of the five top spots in this week’s Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union rankings released on Thursday (Sept. 10, 2015).

Cedar Falls (8-0) is the only team unbeaten in Class-5A and made the jump to No. 1 after being ranked fourth last week. The Tigers join Janesville (Class-1A) and West Delaware (Class-3A) as poll leaders.

In all, 17 teams from the Cedar Valley and Northeast Iowa are featured in the latest survey.

Joining top-ranked Janesville in the Class-1A top-15 are Tripoli (No. 2) and Don Bosco (No. 14). All three teams compete in the Iowa Star Conference.

Also ranked are seven competitors from the North Iowa Cedar League. Sumner-Fredericksburg (No. 3), four-time defending state champion Dike-New Hartford (No. 4), Wapsie Valley (No. 10), Grundy Center (No. 11), and Denver (No. 13) are all ranked among the top-15 teams in Class-1A, while La Porte City (No. 3) and Waterloo Columbus Catholic (No. 9) are rated in Class-2A.

Just hours after Thursday's poll was released, Sumner-Fredericksburg survived a test from Waspie Valley, rallying from two sets down to beat the Warriors in five sets.

Other area teams featured in this week's survey are Starmont (No. 14 in Class-2A) and Center Point-Urbana (No. 10 in Class-3A). In Class-4A, Charles City (No. 8), Waverly-Shell Rock (No. 9) and Independence (No. 14) all made the top 15 behind West Delaware.
