Iowa High School Football Week Five Preview
The Iowa high school football season reaches the halfway mark with games being played across the state on Friday night (Sept. 25, 2015).
A match-up of unbeaten rated teams highlights the area schedule. In Class-1A, second-ranked Dike-New Harford hosts No. 9 Hudson in a battle for supremacy in District Four. Not only is it a game between two rivals who compete in the North Iowa Cedar League Conference, it's also Homecoming for the Wolverines.
"It's a very big game, regardless of teams records and rankings," said Dike-New Hartford Coach Don Betts.
Hudson is coming off back-to-back, one-point wins and lost the turnover battle in both games. According to Coach Justin Brekke, the Pirates can't make mistakes against D-NH.
"We can't afford to spot them anything", he said. "We can't give them any big breaks. We have to control the turnover battle and momentum swings and not spot them any points. It would be a big win for our program and the kids."
In all, eight teams from the Cedar Valley and Northeast Iowa remain unbeaten at the midway point of the season.
Week five also marks the beginning of district play for Class-4A teams across the state. In Cedar Falls, the 10th-ranked Tigers (3-1) welcome Waterloo West (2-2) to the UNI-Dome as their Homecoming opponent, while Waterloo East (0-4) hosts Linn-Mar (1-3) at Memorial Stadium.
The Trojans are one of six teams from the Cedar Valley and Northeast Iowa looking for their first victory of the season. Two others are Waterloo Columbus Catholic and Oelwein, a pair of Class-2A, District Three rivals who square-off at McLaughlin Stadium in Waterloo.
There are two games being played in Waverly on Friday night. Wvaverly-Shell Rock hosts Decorah, while Wartburg College is hosting a Class-A non-district game featuring No. 9 Gladbrook-Reinbeck and North Butler at Walston-Hoover Stadium.
