Former Waterloo Black Hawks goalie Cale Morris is one of the finalist for college hockey's most prestigious award. Morris is one of ten finalist vying for this notable honor.

Each year the Hobey Baker Award is awarded to the the nation's top college hockey player. This is more than just about on-ice performance. Just to be named as a finalist, each athlete must display outstanding strength and character on and off the ice, sportsmanship, and scholastic achievements.

Morris started his United States Hockey League career as a member of the Chicago Steel before a trade brought him to Waterloo in January 2014. He earned a 19-6-3 record, a 1.85 goals against-average, and .937 save percentage in his 28 games for Waterloo that year.

Now he suits up for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Morris is currently first in the nation in save percentage (.946), and he is tied for most wins this season. The Larkspur, CO native was named to the First Team all-conference squad, Goalie of the Year, and Big Ten Player of the Year.

The Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced on Friday, April 6, 2018 during the NCAA Frozen Four tournament held in St. Paul, MN.

Come cheer on the future stars of American hockey this weekend as the Waterloo Black Hawks will play tonight (March 16) and tomorrow (March 17) at Young Arena.
