Hogeland guided the UNI Panthers from 1967-1973, succeeding Norm Stewart and proceeding Jim Berry in the program's coaching line. The Marshalltown native compiled a mark of 70-74 during his six years with the Panthers.

Hogeland led UNI to records of 15-7 in 1967-68,15-9 in 1968-69, and 13-12 in 1969-70. His final year coaching the Panthers was 1972-73, a season in which UNI won its final three contests.

Prior to coming to UNI, Hogeland was the head men's basketball coach at Bemidji State.

Born on Nov. 25, 1925, he married the former Gretchen Honor Glover. The couple had three children: Wesley Dean II, Cindy Jo and Scott Glover.

Hogeland earned his undergraduate degree from the State College of Iowa (SCI) in 1949. He lettered three years in basketball at SCI (now UNI) under head coach O.M. "Hon" Nordly. He later earned his master's degree in physical education from the University of Iowa in 1955.
