On October 3, 2016, University of Northern Iowa sophomore libero Kendyl Sorge has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's defensive player of the week.

Sorge (Janesville, Iowa) put together back-to-back 29-dig efforts as the Panthers split against Missouri State and Wichita State this past weekend. Sorge averaged 6.44 digs/set in the two matches. Sorge helped clinch the victory over Wichita State by collecting 12 digs in the decisive fourth set vs. the Shockers.

Sorge ranks second in the MVC in digs/set in conference matches (5.27/set). Sorge has seven 20 or more dig efforts this season.

On Monday night, Sorge produced her third straight 29-dig effort to help the defensive cause in a 3-1 UNI win over the Indiana State Sycamores (25-12, 25-22, 21-25, 25-19).
