CourtKings Blowout Division-Leading Chicago
The CourtKings are one game out of first-place in the MBL’s West Division, following a 130-94 drubbing of the Chicago Fury at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex in Waterloo Saturday night (June 11, 2016).
Seven Cedar Valley players tallied double figures, with Andre Norris’ 29 points leading the way. Marvin Singleton followed with 21, Gage Heffernan scored 15, Wakefield Ellison followed with 14, Anthony James netted 12, and Lamar Wall and LaDon Singleton each added 11 points.
Norris and Singleton pulled down 10 rebounds apiece as each player recorded a double-double. Clay Cook matched their team-high total, also grabbing 10 carems.
The CourtKings (4-3) enter the second-half of their 14-game season just a game out of first place. The Fury (5-2) owned sole possession of first-place in the West Division standings entering the weekend, but now share the lead with the Minnesota Rangers following Saturday’s loss in Waterloo.
Cedar Valley came out strong, making three of its first four shots, but Chicago traded baskets with the CourtKings the rest of the period. The home team owned a 28-22 lead after the opening 12 minutes.
The Fury’s 22 points in the first quarter were the most allowed by the CourtKings on their home floor this season.
Cedar Valley outscored Chicago 31-22 in the second quarter and extended their advantage to 59-44 at halftime.
The second half belonged to the CourtKings. Cedar Valley outscored the Fury 71-54 over the final 24 minutes of play. The 130 points were the most scored by the CourtKings in franchise history.
Said head coach Stan Hughes, following the win: “(We) still have things to take care and they are little things. We aren’t quite there yet. Still have I’m most impressed with the fact that we had 32 assists tonight. That means we are sharing the ball.”
