Six players scored in double-figures, leading the Cedar Valley CourtKings to a dominating 111-72 victory over the Lincoln Lions in Waterloo Saturday night (June 4, 2016).

Former UNI guard Marvin Singleton recorded his first double-double playing for Cedar Valley (3-3), topping all scorers with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Andre Norris added 17 points, Wakefield Ellison scored 15, Lamar Wall tallied 13, while Aundre’ Hicks and LaDon Singleton each chipped in 10.

Playing Lincoln was a late schedule change for the CourtKings. The Illinois-based Lions entered the Midwest Basketball League (MBL) as a full-time member officially this week as a replacement for the struggling Chicago Clovers in the West Division. Lincoln was a branding team, which won two exhibition games against teams in the MBL’s East Division.

The Lions (1-1) were coming off a 116-111 double-overtime exhibition win over the Indiana Dream on May 28.

The CourtKings led Saturday’s game from start to finish, jumping out to an 18-5 lead on Lincoln. They capitalized on a series of turnovers by the Lions and owned a 35-18 lead after the first quarter.

Cedar Valley outscored Lincoln 26-19 in the second quarter. The CourtKings ended the period strong, getting back-to-back baskets from Ellison and a pair of free throws from Hicks as they went into halftime with a 61-37 advantage.

Singleton set the pace for the Cedar Valley in the second half, scoring seven quick points and adding a pair of rebounds in the third quarter. His double-double was the second by a CourtKings player this season.

NEXT UP: The CourtKings host the West-Division leading Chicago Fury on Saturday (June 11) at 7:30 p.m. at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex in downtown Waterloo. The first 100 fans will receive a CourtKings team poster, courtesy of game sponsor Chandler’s Janesville Locker LLC.

Cedar Valley dropped a 111-103 decision to the Fury in their first meeting on April 30 in Chicago.
