Bucks Swept By Rochester In Modified Doubleheader

The Waterloo Bucks were swept in a series for just the third time this season, as Rochester won both halves of a modified doubleheader on its home field in southeast Minnesota Wednesday night (July 13, 2016).

The opener featured the completion of a July 5 game that was suspended by weather with Waterloo trailing 6-2 entering the fifth inning. Rochester won the opener 7-5, then finished the sweep with a 6-2 victory in the seven-inning nightcap.

In the regularly-scheduled game, Waterloo (4-4, 26-17) took an early 2-0 lead with a pair of solo home runs over the left-center field wall. Alex Boxwell hit a home run in the opening inning and Jake Hand belted the second blast in the second inning.

Rochester (3-5, 10-33) tied the game with a pair of runs in the third, before scoring twice again in the fifth. The Honkers then extended their advantage to 6-2 in the sixth inning, when two unearned runs crossed the plate.

Hunter Spencer (1-1) was charged with the loss after allowing two runs on two hits in 2/3 of an inning of relief.

SUSPENDED GAME: It didn't take the Bucks long to narrow their four-run deficit once play resumed. Waterloo scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Robert Neustrom doubled and Adam McGinnis was hit by pitch. Boxwell followed with an infield single, however, the throw to first sailed wide and allowed both Neustrom and McGinnis to score.

McGinnis belted a solo home run in the seventh inning to cut Rochester's lead to 6-5, but the Honkers scored an insurance run in the eighth inning when the Bucks failed to turn a double play. For complete game summary, CLICK HERE.

Patrick Boyle (2-2) was charged with the loss in the suspended game, allowing three runs on three hits while walking two and striking out four. He also hit one batter.

UP NEXT: The Bucks return to Riverfront Stadium on Thursday (July 14) for the start of a four-game homestand. Waterloo hosts the Duluth Huskies at 7:05 p.m.
