After a dramatic and decisive playoff victory on Sunday, the Waterloo Black Hawks have begun preparing for a second round USHL Clark Cup postseason series against the Tri-City Storm, which begins in Kearney, Nebraska, this Friday.

The Hawks claimed a three-games-to-one decision during the opening round of the 2016 United States Hockey League Clark Cup Playoffs against the Lincoln Stars, capped by a 4-3 double overtime win in Game Four. Meanwhile, Tri-City – the regular season Western Conference champions – dispatched the Sioux Falls Stampede in a three-game  sweep.

The playoff rendezvous is the first for the two clubs since 2012, when Waterloo prevailed in a best-of-three opening round set played entirely at Young Arena. The only other postseason encounter between the Hawks and Storm was in the 2004 Clark Cup Championship set, claimed by Waterloo in four games. In regularly scheduled 2015/16 meetings, two of the four tilts ended in overtime, and Waterloo claimed a 6-4 edge in head-to-head competition points.

  • Game 3: Friday, 5/6 at 7:05 p.m. at Young Arena
  • Game 4 (if necessary): Saturday, 5/7 at 7:05 p.m. at Young Arena
  • Game 5 (if necessary): Tuesday, 5/10 at 7:05 p.m. at Viaero Events Center
