The Waterloo Black Hawks exploded for three goals in the opening period and cruised to a 6-2 win over the visiting Fargo Force. The two teams meet again tonight at Young Arena.

Both Waterloo and Fargo are locked into the United States Hockey League 2017 Clark Cup Playoffs. The Black Hawks will be the second seed, but Fargo could end up as the third or fourth seed pending tonight's (April 8, 2017) outcome.

A win by the Force, and they settle into the third spot. They would then face the Black Hawks during the first round of the 2017 USHL Playoffs. A loss and a Des Moines Buccaneers win drops Fargo to fourth and a trip to Sioux City to face the Anderson Cup winning Musketeers. Des Moines would then face Waterloo next weekend.

Nick Swaney was named the game's First Star of the Game. Swaney score two goals in the first period just 1:11 apart.

Shane Bowers earned the Second Star with one goal and one assist, and Kevin Charyszyn also scored one goal and one assist, and was named the Third Star.

Tonight's Waterloo versus Fargo match-up at Young Arena begins at 7:05 PM, and it marks the end of the 2016/17 USHL regular season.

The first round of the playoffs will begin next weekend, and Waterloo will host games one and two, regardless of who they face, on Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15.
