Black Hawks Rally Falls Short Against Stampede

The Waterloo Black Hawks rallied once on Saturday (Oct. 17, 2015) evening, but a second
comeback never materialized, and the Sioux Falls Stampede pulled out a 4-2 win at Sanford Premier Center.

The matchup went to the first intermission with the Sioux Falls Stampede on top thanks to a goal by Eric MacAdams. At 12:55, MacAdams stepped around a check and lifted a shot past the glove of Cale Morris.

Lawton Courtnall scored shorthanded to give Sioux Falls a 2-0 lead at 6:08 of the second, cashing in on a give-and-go play created by Josh Passolt.

Waterloo roared back with a Ronnie Hein goal just over two minutes later; Hein dashed up the slot to beat Stefanos Lekkas from pointblank range. Alex Robert brought the game level at 11:46, blasting a shot to the top corner after the Hawks hemmed the Stampede in their own zone with relentless pressure for a full minute. However, a turnover at the Hawks
blue line allowed Courtnall to put Sioux Falls back in front with a low shot at 14:21.

The visitors were turned away on three power play opportunities during the third. The lone goal came with 3.1 seconds remaining when Parker Toumie tapped the puck into an empty net. Waterloo finished the contest with a 28-25 edge in shots on goal.

The Hawks cap their three game weekend Sunday afternoon against the Sioux City Musketeers. Following that 3:05 road contest, Waterloo returns to Young Arena to host the Omaha Lancers October 24th.
