The 2016 Iowa High School Football Postseason played its quarterfinal round Friday (Nov. 4th) night, and five northeast Iowa area high school football programs have advanced to the semifinal round.

The Class 2A field is shaping up to feature an all Cedar Valley match-up in the championship. Dike-New Hartford (9-2) defeating PCM, Monroe (9-1) by a score of 54-14 to advance to Saturday's Class 2A semifinal games. The Wolverines are riding a tidal wave of emotions after last week's game when senior Trent Johnson become the state’s all-time leading rusher (web). Dike-New Hartford will now face Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley (10-1) on Saturday (Nov. 12) at 4:06 PM.

On the other side of the Class 2A bracket, Union Community held off another northeast Iowa School for the quarterfinal win. The Knights beat North Fayette Valley (10-1), 28-12. Union is eyeing two titles this season. Along with the state championship, head coach Joe Hadachek is one of the finalist in the US Cellular Most Valuable Coach (national) award (web). In Class 1A quarterfinal action, Denver (11-0) faced off in a battle of unbeaten teams. The Cyclones put in a dominating performance by putting down Bellevue (10-1), 34-6. Up next for Denver is match up against the defending Class 1A state champion Regina, Iowa City (10-1). That semifinal game kicks off on Saturday at 10:08 AM. The 2015 Class A state champion Gladbrook-Reinbeck (11-0) squad continued their march to defend their first ever state title. On Friday (Nov. 4), The Rebels rolled past Montezuma (8-3), 35-0. GR heads to the UNI-Dome for a Friday (Nov. 11) game of unbeaten teams. Their game against Saint Ansgar (11-0) kicks off at 10:06 AM. See the complete 2016 Class A football bracket here (web).

After settling for a runner-up finish in the 2015 8-Player championship game, Don Bosco (10-1) stormed past northeast Iowa foe Central, Elkader, 56-20. The Dons take on Midland, Wyoming (9-2) on Thursday (Nov. 10) for their semifinal game which kicks off at 9:06 AM. See the complete 2016 8-Player football bracket here (web).

All semifinal games will be played in the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.  The semifinal round begins Thursday, November 10 with Class 3A and 8-Player games scheduled to kick-off things off. On Friday, Class 4A & A move into the UNI-Dome. On Saturday, the last semifinal games feature Class 1A & 2A.
