Four newcomers are among the 13 teams from the Cedar Valley and northeast Iowa that are featured in the latest prep football rankings, released by the Associated Press on Monday (Oct. 10, 2016).

Entering the six-class poll for the first time in several years is East Buchanan of Winthrop, which improved to 5-2 overall with a 58-0 victory at Alburnett Friday night. The Buccaneers made their debut at No. 9 in Class-A, while Crestwood of Cresco jumped into the No. 10 spot in Class-2A. The Cadets are tied with Dike-New Hartford, which returned to the survey after being ranked earlier the season. West Delaware is the area's other newcomer, ranked No. 10 in Class-3A.

With two weeks remaining in the regular season, six teams from the Cedar Valley and northeast Iowa remain undefeated. One of them is Waterloo West (7-0), which moved into the Class-4A top five this week following a 21-14 victory over Cedar Falls.

North Fayette Valley (7-0) and La Porte City Union (7-0) continue to lead the Class-2A rankings. They are preparing to play one of the premiere game's in Iowa this week. The TigerHawks and Knights square off Friday night in a showdown that will likely decide the District 4 championship and automatic playoff berth.

The other unbeaten squads are Denver, Gladbrook-Reinbeck and Turkey Valley. Gladbrook-Reinbeck -- the defending Class-A state champions -- has won 17-straight games dating back to last season, currently the second-longest win streak in the state (all classes).
