The volleyball teams at Cedar Falls, Waterloo's three biggest schools and Waverly-Shell Rock all will begin their journey to the 2015 state tournament the week of Oct. 26. Teams in Iowa's two smallest classes began regional first-round matches Tuesday night (Oct. 20, 2015).

Waterloo West will have to win three regional games to qualify for the state tournament in Class-5A, while two victories will earn Cedar Falls a trip to the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids. The Wahawks begin postseason play with a quarterfinal match against Cedar Rapids Washington at home on Oct. 26. Cedar Falls received a quarterfinal-round bye in a different region, and the Tigers begin their road to state with an Oct. 29 regional semifinal match against Fort Dodge on their home court.

Waterloo East is in the Class-4A field for the first time this season. The Trojans open regional play with a quarterfinal match at Decorah and will need three wins to get to state. Waverly-Shell Rock received a quarterfinal bye in its region and must win two matches to get a state tournament berth.

Waterloo Columbus and Oelwein are among the 64 teams that make up the Class-3A field and each will need three victories to make it to state. Columbus opens play with a home quarterfinal match against Hampton-Dumont at Oppold Gymnasium, while Oelwein starts the post-season at North Fayette Valley.

The regional tournament began Tuesday, Oct. 20 with first-round matches in Class-1A and -2A. (113 -1A) (96-2A) (64-3A) (48-4A) (40-5A) In all, there are 361 high school volleyball teams across Iowa. Only 40 will make it to the state tournament -- eight in each class.

The state tournament runs November 10-13 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
