A father and son duo made it family night Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Benton County Speedway.

Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified veteran Troy Cordes earned his first win of the season on the quarter-mile, but not before his 13-year-old son, Tristan, scored his second career win in the Micro Mod division.

Jeff Davis held the early lead in the 12-lap Micro Mod main while Tristan Cordes gave chase after starting in row two.

Cordes reeled in Davis and positioned himself on the low side of the speedway to challenge for the top spot.

After pestering Davis for a handful of laps, Cordes raced the low groove into the lead exiting turn four on the final lap to seal his first Vinton win. His first career win came last month in Independence.

Davis ran second ahead of Don Erger.

Less than an hour later, Troy Cordes matched his son’s accomplishments in the 20-lapper for the Modifieds.

Zach Less took the lead from Jerry Dedrick following a lap four restart and then pulled to a straightaway lead while Cordes was mired in traffic.

Cordes was able to work his way into third by the time the caution flag waved again with four laps to go.

When racing resumed, Cordes raced the top groove to the lead and drove to the win ahead of Less and point leader Kyle Brown.

Of his career 103 IMCA sanctioned Modified wins, Cordes has celebrated in victory lane in Vinton 47 times in weekly points racing. That number leads all drivers in the division at the speedway.

With the win, Cordes has now earned at least one Modified victory in each of the last 14 seasons in Vinton – the longest such streak in division history at the speedway.

Another all-time leader in wins on the quarter-mile, Damon Murty earned his 72nd Vinton win in the 18-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main.

Murty ran the top groove to steal the lead after just one lap. He survived a pair of stoppages to take the win ahead of Nathan Wood and Justin Stander.

Murty has now won at least four Stock Car features in Vinton in each of the last 11 seasons.

IMCA Hobby Stock point leader Nathan Ballard drove to his fourth win of the season in that 15-lap feature.

Ballard passed race-long leader Bill Bonnett on the final circuit to take the victory ahead of Bonnett and Justin Wacha.

Tony Olson raced to his second straight local win in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature.

After using multiple grooves to race into third from a fifth row start, Olson swept to the outside of Kyle Bentley to take the lead for good on the fifth of 16 laps.

Olson took the checkers ahead of Curt Hilmer and Austin Kaplan.
