A new convenience store is scheduled to open this summer in Waverly.

Construction is underway on a new Kwik Star, which will be the company's third convenience store in the city. The location is at 2501 Fourth St. SW (Business U.S. Highway 218), across from the Walmart Supercenter entrance. It will serve customers on the south side of Waverly.

When construction is complete, the convenience store will sport a 6,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art building with 10 gas pumps and two diesel dispensers. According to a Kwik Star official, no car wash is planned at the location.

"It will be a 24-hour store ... (with) all the great food and beverage items that Kwik Star is known for," said Steve Wrobel, a spokesperson for the La Crosse, Wis.-based company. "We are like the old-time corner grocery store -- a convenient stop to get bread, bananas, eggs, milk at value prices; and a place to purchase anything ranging from a quick snack to a full meal."

Wrobel said the targeted opening date for the new Kwik Star is July 28, 2016, with a ribbon-cutting event tentatively scheduled for Aug. 3 at 10:30 a.m. Both dates, however, are contingent on whether there are any construction delays.

The Kwik Star in Waverly will be the second one to open in the Cedar Valley in less than a year. The company also opened a new convenience store in Evansdale last fall.

"Waterloo-Cedar Falls-Waverly has been a great market for us," Wrobel said. "We opened our first store in Waverly in 1985. We appreciate the support we have received and look forward to continuing serving everyone."
