Chuck Berry Dies: Rockers React

The news of Chuck Berry‘s death today has prompted an outpouring of love and respect from a wide variety of rock stars.

The Rolling Stones, who covered several Berry songs during their career, issued a statement across three tweets declaring themselves “deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Chuck Berry. He was a true pioneer of rock’n’roll & a massive influence. [He] was not only a brilliant guitarist, singer and performer, but most importantly, he was a master craftsman as a songwriter. Chuck Berry’s songs will live forever.” They also retweeted a post from FeminstHazza which stated, “There would be no Rolling Stones without Chuck Berry.”

Ringo Starr, who performed many Berry classics such as “Roll Over Beethoven” and “Rock and Roll Music” as part of the Beatles, put up a two-part tribute including some choice lyrics from that latter song, and artists from Rod Stewart to Kiss to Guns N’ Roses and Peter Frampton quickly followed suit.

However, so far, proud Berry disciple Ted Nugent may have said it best with this blistering solo electric Facebook live take on “Johnny B. Goode,” followed by four simple words: “Chuck Berry, thank you.”

RIP Chuck Berry. Without him Rock n Roll wouldn't be what it came to be.
