A suspect who eluded authorities following a vehicle chase in Black Hawk County over the weekend is now hospitalized, Waterloo police confirmed on Sunday (Dec. 20, 2015).

Jonathan Martin, 32, of Waterloo, escaped capture when he drove his vehicle off Interstate 380 near Brandon and fled into a cornfield. Several agencies spent several hours searching for Martin on Saturday, but eventually called off the search around at mid-morning.

On Sunday, Waterloo Director of Safety Services Dan Trelka released a statement, confirming that Martin had been found.

"He is currently hospitalized, suffering from severe frostbite and exposure," Trelka said in an email. "He called for an ambulance from a residence in Waterloo."

Authorities in Hardin County asked other agencies to be on the lookout for Martin in connection with a burglary that occurred recently near Steamboat Rock. Waterloo police spotted Martin's vehicle near University Avenue and Sergeant Road (U.S. Highway 63) around 5 a.m. Saturday and tried to stop him. That's when the pursuit began.

According to Trelka, the investigation involving Martin remains active.
