A chase in Fayette County has resulted in the death of a Missouri man who was originally from northeast Iowa.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the incident began in the city of Wadena around 1:45 AM on Saturday (July 14, 2018). A sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a car on Mill Street, when a high speed chase began.

Authorities said the car crossed into the other lane of traffic and onto the shoulder, then collided head-on with an unoccupied, parked pickup.

The car's driver was pronounced dead from his injures. Officials identified the victim as Jared Hill, 28, of Jefferson City, Mo., and formerly of Oelwein.

The accident was investigated by the Iowa State Patrol and Fayette County sheriff's department, with assistance from the Wadena Fire Department.
