The Iowa State Patrol is investigating a fatal accident in Floyd County.

Authorities identified the victim as Harold Vermeer, 72, of Charles City. According to state troopers, Vermeer was killed when a bus hit his sport utility vehicle after he failed to stop at a signed rural intersection Thursday morning (April 12, 2018).

The accident occurred around 8:30 AM about 11 miles west of Nashua. According to a crash report, Vermeer was traveling south on County Road T47 (Packard Ave.) and the bus was westbound on County Road B60 (270th St.) when the vehicles collided.

Officials said Michael Katcher, 32, of Greene, was driving the bus. He was taken to the Waverly hospital in a private vehicle to be treated for unspecified injuries.
