A Reinbeck man is facing charges in connection with a fatal, two-vehicle accident that occurred last month.

Black Hawk County sheriff’s deputies arrested Shye Johnston, 18, on Sunday (Nov. 1, 2015). He was later released from jail following his initial court appearance.

According to authorities, Johnston was driving eastbound on Iowa Highway 175 (W. Reinbeck Rd) when his vehicle crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming vehicle, driven by Holly Paradine, 34, of Lincoln.

The crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 25 about 1.3 miles west of U.S Highway 63, south of Hudson.

Sheriff’s officials said Paradine suffered severe head injuries in the crash and was transported to a Waterloo hospital, where she later died. Johnston was transported to the hospital for observation.

On Sunday, Johnston was formally charged with Driving Left of Center - Causing A Death and Failure To Have Control Of A Motor Vehicle - Causing A Death. Deputies have been waiting for toxicology results before filing charges in the accident.
