An area man has been arrested in connection with a recent ATV accident involving alcohol.
52 year old Joseph Daughton of Clermont was taken into custody Tuesday (July 26) by the Fayette County Sheriff's Office. Daughton had been under investigation for an all-terrain vehicle accident where alcohol was suspected as a factor.

Just before 4:30pm Sunday, July 3rd, officers were called to a rural Elgin property, the site of a four-wheeler accident.
Daughton was riding his vehicle, with a passenger, up a steep incline, when it rolled over backward, on top of him.
The passenger was not hurt, but Daughton had to be taken to Palmer Hospital in West Union, by the Fayette Ambulance.

After results came back from the Iowa DCI lab, it was determined that Daughton had been intoxicated at the time. He is being charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Third Offense. The charge carries a penalty of five years in prison.

Daughton also failed to serve seven days in jail from an OWI 2nd offense conviction last year, and was served a warrant to also complete that time. He is currently being held in the Fayette County Jail.
