If weather forecasts are accurate, it could be another soggy night for high school football in Iowa. The rain and lightning that caused delays, suspensions and postponements last week is having an impact on some area games being played Friday night (Oct. 13, 2017).

Site & Time Change For Gladbrook-Reinbeck Game:

A muddy field has forced officials at Gladbrook-Reinbeck to move the Rebels' game against Belle Plaine to another location with a later start time. The Class-A, District 5 showdown will be played on the artifical surface at Lyle Leinbaugh Field in Independence and will kick-off at 7:30 p.m., Gladbrook-Reinbeck School officials announced on Thursday.

The two-time defending state champions had their 29-game winning streak snapped by Hudson over the weekend. The Pirates beat the Rebels, 5-0, in a lightning-postponed game that was played in heavy rain Saturday afternoon. Playing the game in adverse weather tore up the field, leaving the surface unplayable for this week's game.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck remains one of three teams in Class-A, District 5 still in position to make the playoffs. With two weeks remaining in the regular season, the second-place Rebels trail unbeaten district co-leaders Hudson and Belle Plaine by one game in the group standings. A victory over the Plainsmen Friday night not only keeps Gladbrook-Reinbeck in the hunt for a post-season berth, but would give coach John Olson his 100th career win.

An early start time has also been announced for Waterloo East's home game against Cedar Rapids Washington. The Trojans and Warriors will kick-off their Class-4A, District 5 battle at 6 p.m. Friday, 90 minutes earlier than scheduled. Senior night introductions will begin at 5:30 p.m. In an attempt to protect the soggy playing surface, Waterloo school officials decided to move East's 5 p.m. freshman game against Washington to Sloane Wallace Stadium.

As usual, there's a full slate of games being played across the state Friday night. Several match-ups have playoff implications.
