The Salvation Army’s traditional mayoral Battle of the Bells will take place once again this year. Yes, the Cedar Valley Mayors will battle with bells. It's for a GREAT cause.

Waterloo Mayor Quentin Hart will be facing off against Cedar Falls Mayor Jim Brown on Saturday, December 10 from 9 am – noon. Both incoming mayors will be attempting to raise the most money for The Salvation Army of Waterloo/Cedar Falls. The challenge has been won by Waterloo’s mayor for the past six years.

Mayor Hart will ring the bell at the Crossroads Hy-Vee. “One of life’s greatest opportunities is to be able to share and give to others in need. Through giving we offer hope and support to those most in need. And we need your support so we can out-give Mayor Brown and Cedar Falls,” said Mayor Hart.

Mayor Jim Brown will take up the post at College Square Hy-Vee. “I look forward to the friendly competition with my good friend Mayor Hart while realizing it’s all going towards a great cause,” said Mayor Brown.

Residents in both cities are encouraged to support their mayor this weekend. “We are so grateful both mayors are participating again in this year’s Battle of the Bells, showing commitment to not only their city but to the Cedar Valley as a whole,” said Major Harold Poff, Commanding Officer of the local Salvation Army Corps Community Center.

The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign has raised 39% of its goal to date. The campaign goal of $683,000 accounts for 40% of The Salvation Army’s budget for the coming year. Gifts can be made at the Red Kettles until December 24, and by mail or online now through the end of the year.

New this year is an easy, guilt-free way to bypass red kettles and still boost donations. Season Pass Pins in $20, $50 and $100 increments and are good for the entire Christmas season. A limited number are available at any Hy-Vee in Waterloo or Cedar Falls.
