The Cedar Falls Police Department wants to warn the public about a phone scam occurring in the Cedar Falls area.

Several local businesses received telephone calls from people who have fraudulently identified themselves as MidAmerican Energy employees.

The callers claim the business has not paid their power bill, and threaten to shut off electricity if they don’t provide bank information for payment by phone.  They also tell customers they perform the disconnect service for Cedar Falls Utilities.

Police reminds citizens to never give personal information or account numbers over the phone.  If someone has a question about their utility bills or obligations, contact CFU directly.
