Cedar Falls Police Release 2014 Crime Statistics
Crime in Cedar Falls increased 2.1% in 2014, but the five-year average shows a 15.5% decline. The city saw increases in thefts, vandalisms and burglaries. There were declines in OWIs, disorderliness, drug violations and assaults.
The largest increase was in the theft category. Part of the reason for this increase was a 56% increase in shoplifting cases, from 175 in 2013 to 273 in 2014. The category with the largest decrease was in the OWI (Operating While Intoxicated).
“The five-year decline in crime is a fantastic trend. We have a low crime rate in Cedar Falls partially due to the great communication and cooperation between the citizens and the police officers," said Police Chief Jeff Olson.
