Cedar Falls Police Make Arrest In May 9th Assault Case

The Cedar Falls Police Department has made an arrest in a May assault which required surgery and hospitalization.

Justin Ertl, age 23, was assaulted in the parking lot of the Kwik Star convenience store at 2019 College Street in the early morning hours of May 9th. He suffered multiple fractures to his left eye socket and skull. Ertl underwent surgery and was hospitalized at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Still photos of the suspect(s) were obtained from the business and CFPD asked for help from the public in identifying the suspect in the assault on June 11th. CFPD received numerous tips hours after the photos were posted onto Crime Stoppers and social media. The investigation continued and an arrest was made this morning.

Shane Marcus Kruse, age 23, of 32745 J Avenue in Beaman, Iowa, was arrested today and charged with one count of Assault Causing Serious Injury, a Class “D” Felony. Kruse was transported to the Black Hawk County Jail.
