The Cedar Falls Police Department and Target are teaming up for the National Night Out Against Crime.

On August 2, the Cedar Falls Police Department will be working with the Target Retail Store in Cedar Falls to celebrate the National Night Out Against Crime event from 4:00 P.M.- 7:00 P.M. This marks the seventh time that Target has teamed with the department since the opening of the Cedar Falls store.

There will be fingerprinting available to parents for their children and there will be children friendly handouts and giveaways along with refreshments and treats. A professional face painter will be on site to entertain and decorate the children. A cookout is scheduled to take place with free hot dogs and bratwursts available on site. The Cedar Falls Hy-Vee store will be conducting the cook-out and assisting with the event.

Weather permitting, the Covenant Hospital AirCare helicopter will be on display along with its flight crew to answer questions and allow people to get a close-up look at an airborne ambulance. There will also be fire trucks, ambulance, police K9, police vehicles and bicycles on site to visit; and a chance to talk with members of the departments that provide the services to the community.

The agencies that are tentatively scheduled to be represented are:

  • Cedar Falls Police Department
  • Cedar Falls Fire Rescue
  • Covenant Hospital
  • Iowa State Patrol
  • Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office
  • UNI Police Department.

This is a great opportunity to meet and talk with emergency services personnel for children and adults alike; while learning about crime prevention and safety. We hope to set a new attendance record this year and remind everyone to drive carefully before and after the event.
