A Cedar Falls man was arrested recently in Florida on 11 Iowa arrest warrants for theft.

33 year old Troy Allen Engle of West 22nd St. in Cedar Falls was arrested on November 21st in Manatee County, Florida on 11 warrants in Iowa for theft.

According to the Cedar Falls Police, Engle opened a checking account with a $50.00 minimum and then wrote over $22,000 in checks to Cedar Falls businesses in late October.  Engle purchased various goods and services with the bad checks including jewelry, bicycles and a vehicle.  The jewelry and bicycles were immediately pawned for cash and several items were recovered by police.  The vehicle was recovered when Engle was arrested.

Businesses that were victimized were Dan Deery Motors, Europa Cycle and Ski, B&B West Convenience Store, Dean Jewelers, LR Jewelers, Precieux Arts Jewelers and Hy-Vee.

The warrants were for:

  • 7 Counts of Theft in the 3rd Degree (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
  • 3 Counts of Theft in the 2nd Degree (Class D Felony)
  • 1 Count of Theft in the 1st Degree (Class C Felony)

Engle is being held in Florida on a $62,000 Bond and will be returned to Iowa to face the charges.
