Authorities are investigating a traffic accident in northern Illinois, that killed a Cedar Falls couple.

The crash happened at the intersection of Illinois Highway 94 and Highway 135, near Monmouth, in Warren County on Wednesday (June 6, 2018).

Officials said a car driven by Miriam Temple, 84, had stopped at the stop sign, but then proceeded into the intersection, into the path of a northbound car driven by Robert Gates, 29, of Aledo, Illinois.

Temple's car was struck in the driver's side; she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Also killed in the crash was Temple's  husband, Thoburn Thompson. Authorities said he was a passenger in his wife's vehicle. Thompson, 86, was taken to a hospital in Peoria, Ill., where he later died.

Gates, the other driver, as well as two of his passengers, were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

No charges have been filed, however the accident remains under investigation.
