Several road construction projects are scheduled to get underway in Cedar Falls this week.

Beginning today (Monday, June 6, 2016), resurfacing work begins on portions of Orchard Dr. and the Hudson Road frontage road that will require the closure of both streets for about 10 hours each of the next two nights. Orchard Dr. between Veralta and Cedar Heights Drives and the Hudson Road frontage road from the south dead end to W. 31st St. are slated to be closed from 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., weather permitting.

Phase 2 of the South Lawn Road reconstruction project and the rebuilding of a downtown alley are also scheduled to begin today. South Lawn Road will be closed from Bonita Dr. to 3822 South Lawn Road and the alley, which runs between Clay and Washington streets, will be blocked off between W. 1st and W. 2nd Streets. Both routes will be closed for up to six weeks, depending on the weather.

Another project starting this week is curb and gutter replacement on a segment of W. 6th St., north of Cedar Falls High School. Contract crews will be working on W. 6th between Division St. and Barbara Dr., beginning Tuesday (June 7). According to city officials, the street will remain open -- except for one day -- during construction but access may be limited from one end to the other depending on where the contractor is working.

Street parking and driveway access along W. 6th St. will be limited until the project is complete. Once the concrete is poured, residents will not have driveway access for approximately five days to allow the driveways to cure and be back-filled.

Before the curb and gutter project begins, Cedar Falls city officials are asking effected residents on W. 6th St. to remove any landscape plantings or other personalized items within four feet of the driveway or curb-line before the construction starts.
