When the 2016 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series begins, a 'Caution Clock' will be introduced to the series.

NASCAR Executive Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer Steve O’Donnell announced today (Jan. 19, 2016) several racing-related innovations to the NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, beginning with the 2016 season, designed to ignite and energize the growth of each series.

One such innovations to the rugged NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races was the "Caution Clock". The Caution Clock, which will be triggered at the start of each green-flag run. When the green flag is displayed, 20 minutes will be placed on the clock. If/when the clock expires, a caution will be thrown.

The goal is to help give more opportunities for these developing teams competing in the truck series to make adjustments. A secondary goal is to help make the racing more closer and more exciting as well. It's basically a series of 'Competition Yellows' from NASCAR.

The twenty-minute Caution Clock will begin when the race leader crosses the start/finish line on a start or a restart of all races with the exception to the Eldora Speedway race. If the clock reaches 00:00, a caution flag will wave. The clock resets to twenty minutes, and it will begin when the green flag returns.

If an in-race caution occurs before the clock strikes zero, it will be reset to twenty minutes, and it will begin to countdown once the green flag returns.

The Caution Clock will be shut off once the race has moved into its final twenty laps. It will be the final ten laps for the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park and Pocono Raceway events.

"These innovations contain the elements of racing that our fans want the most," said O’Donnell. "The enhancements put a premium on in-race strategy, and will create an unprecedented level of excitement as teams make tactical decisions that could impact their spot in the Chase."
