The Waterloo Bucks jumped on Thunder Bay early and completed their series sweep of the Border Cats with a 4-2 victory at Tbaytel Park at Port Arthur Stadium Friday night (July 17, 2015).

Lead-off hitter Tyler Selesky (Florida Gulf Coast) set the table at the top of the lineup, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Selesky started the game with a single and later scored on a Thunder Bay (22-30/5-12) error, giving the Bucks an early 1-0 advantage.

Taylor Boyd (St. Joseph's) later tallied Waterloo's second run in the first inning. He reached base on an error and scored on a single by Jonah Bride (Neosho CC).

The Bucks took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on Selesky's sacrifice pop out to the pitcher. Waterloo (28-24/10-6) opened the frame with back-to-back singles by Matthew Stemper (Minnesota) and Chris Kelly (DMACC). Mikal Hill (Winston-Salem St.) followed with a sacrifice bunt, which put runners at second and third. Then, Selesky's sacrifice pop out to the pitcher brought Stemper home.

After Thunder Bay scored its initial run in the fourth inning, the Bucks regained a three-run in the sixth. Zach McKinstry (Central Michigan) led-off the frame with a double, before Bride was hit by a pitch. McKinstry eventually scored on a one-out double by Zack Soria (Florida International).

The Border Cats cut Waterloo's lead to 4-2 when they tallied a run in the bottom of the sixth, but couldn't get any closer.

One highlight for Thunder Bay was Mikael Mogues (Seton Hall), who broke out of his 0-for-19 slump with three hits on the night.

A pair of solid pitching performances helped the Bucks to their fourth-straight victory and two-game sweep of their Canadian rivals. Starter Zach Sigglekow (St. Cloud State) tossed the first four innings in his debut outing, allowing just one run on five hits. Reliever Doug Hayes (Illinois) collected the win, hurling the final five innings and becoming victorious in his last three appearances.

The Bucks return home just a game-and-a-half out of first-place in the second-half standings and play eight of their next nine games at Waterloo's Riverfront Stadium. They open a two-game series against the Duluth Huskies on Saturday, July 18, starting at 5:05 p.m.

After the game, join the Bucks for a concert on the field featuring country artist and Iowa native Neil Hewitt. Following the concert, Hawkeye Community College will present a fireworks show at Riverfront Stadium.
