It was another exciting night at the Benton County Speedway. See the complete race recap and results from August 16, 2015.

Although he’s faced his share of struggles this season, Matt Brown had a reason to smile Sunday night. The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock driver raced to his first win of the season at Benton County Speedway.

Brown took the lead at the drop of the green and fought off pressure from Leah Wroten and Bill Bonnett throughout much of the 15-lapper. He was able to open up some breathing room when lapped cars slowed the progress of his pursuers with four laps to go.

It was also heavy traffic that nearly prevented Brown from making his way to victory lane a short time later.

Brett Vanous slipped past both Wroten and Bonnett in traffic with three laps to go while Brown extended his advantage. Those backmarkers, however, allowed Vanous to close on Brown in the waning moments.

Brown worked the top side off of turn four on the final lap in traffic to secure the win a few feet ahead of Vanous. Nathan Ballard completed the top three.

Brown has now won at least one Hobby Stock feature in eight of the last nine seasons in Vinton.

Fellow Dysart driver Joe Docekal also visited victory lane Sunday night following the 20-lap Cassill Motors IMCA Modified feature.

Docekal took the lead from Jerry Dedrick following a lap one caution and drove away on the restart to take the checkers by a full straightaway ahead of Mike Burbridge and Troy Cordes. It was Docekal’s second win of the year.

Damon Murty raced to his eighth local win of the season in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division.

Murty worked past Kevin Rose just past the midway point of that 16-lapper and then held off late pressure from Scott Pippert to take the win by less than a car-length. Rose finished third.

Danny Dvorak raced his way around Dan Drury near the midway point of the 16-lap Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature en route to his second win of the year. Drury held off Dave Schulze for runner-up honors.

Robby Decker drove to his first career win in the Micro Mod division. Decker took advantage of a late restart to slip past A.J. Witten on his way to the milestone win in that 12-lapper. Witten and Scott Beaty completed the top three.

The INEX Legends made their second appearance of the season on the Vinton quarter-mile and it was Marty Diercks taking the win in that 20-lap event. Mike Miller ran a strong second ahead of Craig Peekenschneider.
