While crews worked to contain a house fire in Waterloo this morning, officials discovered a man's body inside an adjacent garage.

Firefighters were called to 1107 Cornwall Avenue shortly after 9 a.m. today (Tuesday, December 9, 2014) after a passing motorist spotted the smoke. Flames and thick smoke were shooting from the home when fire crews got to the scene.

Waterloo police say the body was found in a detached garage on the property shortly after firefighters arrived. There was no fire in the garage area.

Police don't believe foul play to be involved in the man's death. The victim's name hasn't been released.

Authorities say no one was inside the home at the time of the fire. The blaze caused extensive damage to the house.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about an hour. The cause is under investigation.
