Cale Morris delivered his second shutout in as many outings, backstopping the Waterloo Black Hawks to a 3-0 victory Friday (March 11, 2016) at Young Arena against the Dubuque Fighting Saints.

Six days earlier, Morris had completed a 4-0 whitewash of the Omaha Lancers. Friday’s win was the sixth shutout of the Notre Dame recruit’s Black Hawks career, tying a team record held by Kevin Regan since 2003/04.

Friday’s decision also gives P.K. O’Handley 599 regular season wins in league play. No USHL coach has won 600.

Georgs Golovkovs forced a turnover which led to the only goal of the first period. At 14:26, Golovkovs swiped the puck from Keegan Ford, and slipped a pass to Ryan Lohin in the right circle. Playing in his first Black Hawks home game, the former Madison Capitol snapped his shot off the bar and in.

Waterloo capitalized on a fortunate bounce for the only goal of the second period. Collin Saccoman joined a rush into the offensive zone and lifted a backhander toward the net at 9:55. Goalie Hunter Miska fended off the chance with his blocker, but the puck hit his own man, Brett Boing and bounced into the cage.

With the Saints on the power play and 1:31 remaining before intermission, Morris made his finest stop of the night, snaring a rebound chance as he stared down Gordie Green in a one-on-one situation after the puck had found Green in the left circle.

Golovkovs put the game out of reach with 4:12 to go. After forcing a turnover to set up the first goal of the game, the made the most of a turnover and a fancy passing play between Kevin Charyszyn and Garrett Wait, culminating in Golovkovs’ marker from the left circle into an open side.
