A late go-ahead goal wasn’t enough Friday as the Waterloo Black Hawks fell to the Sioux Falls Stampede 3-2 at Sanford Premier Center on October 16, 2015

With 2:36 remaining, Shane Bowers broke a 1-1 tie and nudged Waterloo in front with a redirection of Ben Newhouse’s shot from the right point.

However, with an extra attacker on the ice and 1:09 left, Parker Toumie shoveled a rebound into an open side to level the score. Then with 26.3 seconds to go, Chaz Swtizer blasted the puck through traffic and into the cage for the winner.

A persistent effort by Nick Swaney had led to the only goal of the first period with 2:58 remaining before intermission. With the disc lodged at the side of the net, Swaney’s swat pushed it across the goal line and past goalie Ales Stezka.

A Sioux Falls power play resulted in the lone goal of the second. At 6:22, Jack Becker, standing between the hashmarks, tipped a long shot by Joe Maguire, redirecting the chance past Cale Morris.

Waterloo outshot Sioux Falls in every period, finishing the night with 44 chances on frame versus 28 for the home team.

The Hawks and Stampede meet for an instant rematch Saturday at 7:05 PM.
