After much of Saturday’s matchup was played without a goal, the Sioux City Musketeers scored 30 seconds into overtime, edging the Waterloo Black Hawks 2-1 at Tyson Event Center on October 18, 2014.

The Hawks went briefly in front 13:22 into the third period when a puck bounced across the crease to Brandon Montour, who was left with an open side and scored inches from the goal line. Just nine seconds later, Walker Duehr tied it with a shot from similar proximity in transition.

In the closing minutes, both teams were turned away on power play opportunities. The Hawks and Musketeers were each 0-for-5 on special teams. Regulation ended with Waterloo outshooting Sioux City 44-21.

The Musketeer’s 22nd shot was decisive. Ryan Zuhlsdorf golfed a puck along the ice and between the pipes, shooting from above the left hashmark off of a setup by Robert Carpenter.

Cam Gornet made 43 saves in the victory, while Hayden Lavigne turned away 20 shots in the overtime loss.

The second matchup during Waterloo’s current stretch of four road games will be Friday against the Fargo Force. The Hawks will not play at home again until Friday, November 7th against the Madison Capitols.
