After opening the USHL weekend with a 4-1 victory Friday, the Waterloo Black Hawks gave an encore road performance Sunday, October 5, 2014, winning by the same count versus the Lincoln Stars on.

After a Friday decision at home against the Dubuque Fighting Saints, Waterloo went right to work Sunday, opening the scoring 4:02 into the action while on a power play. Brock Boeser camped at the front of the net to redirect Hayden Shaw’s left point shot past Cam Hackett.

At even strength just 89 seconds later, the Hawks struck in similar fashion, this time with a goal by Brendan Shane off an initial chance by Brandon Montour. However, Lincoln’s Cam Lee blasted a power play chance to the back of the cage with 1:03 to go before intermission, drawing the Stars back within one goal.

The only goal of the second period came just 26 seconds after the teams came out of the locker room. Carrying the puck up left wing, Boeser glided toward the slot and snapped a wrist shot into the net off the iron to the left of Hackett.

Another early period goal helped to put the game out of reach in the third. During a power play, Tyler Sheehy fished an errant shot off the end wall and banked it in from the side of the net. The Hawks finished the night two-for-five on the advantage.

Waterloo goaltender Hayden Lavigne made 19 saves for the win as the Hawks outshot the Stars in every period and held a 36-20 edge for the contest.

Next up, the Black Hawks host the Fargo Force this Friday. The puck drops at 7:05 in Party Town, with the annual Dachshund Derby presented by Paw Prints Pet Salon and NutriSource Pet Foods at intermission. Waterloo will also wear pink breast cancer awareness sweaters once again. Tickets are available online from  waterlooblackhawks.com or by phone at (319) 291-7680.
