Tyler Sheehy recorded the second Waterloo Black Hawks hat trick in as many games, boosting the visitors to a 7-4 victory against the Chicago Steel Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Seven Bridges Ice Arena in Woodridge, Illinois.

Sheehy’s three-goal night followed up a Brock Boeser hat trick last Friday in a 6-4 victory over the Lincoln Stars in United States Hockey Keague (USHL) action.

On Thursday, the Black Hawks broke the ice with the first goal 10:38 into the game during a power play. Sheehy snapped a shot to the top corner with a chance from the right circle. The Steel were turned away subsequently during 1:57 of two-man advantage time, but ultimately scored on their fourth power play of the period when John Schilling redirected a shot by Dennis Gilbert. However, Waterloo went back to the lead 36 seconds before intermission. Sheehy was working below the icing line, and banked a chance into the net off of a defender.

Special teams scoring stacked up during the second period. Moments after a Waterloo power play ended, Robby Jackson tied the game at 2-2 with a strike for the Steel in transition. That marker at 3:11 was followed 33 seconds later when, during a fresh Waterloo power play, Sheehy completed his hat trick by way of a give-and-go with Tom Novak. Niko Hildenbrand scored next, shorthanded, to add to the Waterloo lead at 6:22, taking advantage of a fortunate bounce on a dump-in which left him one-on-one against goalie John Lethemon.

Chicago narrowed the Waterloo edge with their second power play goal of the night when Mason Bergh scored from the slot at 11:01. But the Black Hawks had one more special teams tally in the bag before intermission;

Henrik Rommel stuffed his own rebound into the net to make it a 5-3 lead at 15:08.

The third period was quiet until 13:56 when Brandon Montour fired the Hawks’ fourth power play goal into the net off the post from the high slot. Chicago’s offensive effort concluded at 16:32 with an unassisted breakaway goal by Ryan Blankemeier. Novak capped Waterloo’s highest-scoring performance of the season with 19 seconds to play, sliding the puck from center ice into an empty net.

Thursday’s game ended a string of four straight on the road for the Hawks. Waterloo returns home on Friday to host the Madison Capitols at 7:05 p.m.

The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a partial set of 2014/15 team trading cards, presented by Village Inn. Tickets are available online from waterlooblackhawks.com or by calling the Domino’s Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680.
