State and local officials are celebrating the near-completion of a new highway interchange in the Cedar Valley.

Black Hawk County will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the almost-finished interchange of U.S. 218/County Road C-57 at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday (Sept. 15, 2016).

The event will be open to the public and held at the project site between Cedar Falls and Janesville. Motorists should enter from the east side of U.S. 218. Take Wagner Road (County Road V-25) to Cedar Wapsi Road (County Road C-57) and continue to just east of the new overpass.

Limited parking will be available on the shoulders of the roadway. Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) officials said they encourage carpooling.

Several dignitaries are scheduled to attend the ribbon-cutting. Speakers include: Linda Laylin and John Miller, Black Hawk County Supervisors; Tony Thompson, Black Hawk County Sheriff; Pete Hjelmstad, Iowa DOT representative; and Traci Berry, Janesville First Responders.

The interchange is scheduled to be completed and open to motorists by early October. Construction on the $19 million project began on April 1, 2015.
