Some residents in rural Northeast Iowa, woke up to damages left by brief, but strong storms from last night (Monday, May 15).


Tornado warnings were issued at around 7pm for southeast Winneshiek County, specifically in the Calmar area, when thunderstorms that were capable of producing tornadic winds blew through the area.

2 inch hail and winds up to 70 mph were reported in southern Winneshiek, Northern Fayette and Allamakee counties. Some outbuildings were blown down or damaged, trees were uprooted, but no injuries were reported.

The storms scattered damage over Nashua, Fort Atkinson, Ossian, Calmar, Tripoli, Frankville, Protivin, and other area farm communities.
