Authorities have arrested a local woman for allegedly stealing checks, and forging them for thousands of dollars in cash.

On Wednesday (Oct. 26), the Fayette County Sheriff took 28 year old Jordan Nehl of Maynard into custody, after completing an investigation into checks stolen from numerous victims, that were forged at various locations.

According to the sheriff, over the period of month, Nehl had taken the checks and forged them for cash at several locations in a large area in Northeast Iowa. The amount of loss to all of the victims totaled over $3,000.

Nehl is being charged with Ongoing Criminal Conduct, a Class "B" Felony. If she is convicted of the charge, she could be sentenced to up to 25 years in prison.

Nehl is being held on $5,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing, and more victims along with the amount of money lost, could increase, according to the Fayette County Sheriff.
