One Northeast Iowa school district is on lockdown mode today, following an alleged threat.

The Decorah Community schools will hold classes as usual today, however all of the buildings will be put on lockdown, meaning students will not be allowed outside during the regular school hours, and entry to the buildings will be restricted.

The action was taken after the school received an email threat over the weekend, from a local resident. Decorah school officials notified the Decorah Police Department on Saturday, that they received a "credible threat", involving the Carrie Lee Elementary school.

The investigation involves Decorah Police and the Winneshiek County Sheriff. Authorities noted that an unnamed local resident was apparently agitated over a curriculum matter at the elementary school.

School officials notified parents that their children would be in a safe and secured environment today, during the lockdown.

More information on the incident was expected later today.
