East Iowa Man Succumbs from ATV Injuries

An Eastern Iowa man who was seriously hurt in a weekend all-terrain-vehicle accident, has now died from those injuries.

The accident was reported to Linn County authorities shortly after 10:30pm Sunday, west of Mount Vernon at a private residence on Knapp Road.

21 year old John Philipp of Cedar Rapids had been driving a four-wheel John Deere Gator ATV, when it went out of control, hit a fence, and rolled, pinning Philipp to the ground.

Philipp was air-cared to University Hospitals in Iowa City; according to the Linn County Sheriff, Philipp died from the injuries at the hospital yesterday (Wednesday, July 6).

The accident is still under investigation.
