An Independence man has died in a one-vehicle accident in rural Fayette County.

The accident happened in the area of County Road W-14 ("R" Avenue), just south of 50th Street, northwest of Oelwein around 5:30 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 29, 2017).

According to sheriff's officials, a sport utility vehicle driven by Seth Siebert left the road and rolled. Siebert, 37, was ejected, and sustained major injuries.

Siebert was initially taken to Mercy Hospital in Oelwein. He was later transferred to University Hospitals in Iowa City, where he died from his injuries.

The 2007 GMC Sierra was totaled.

The accident was investigated by the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Oelwein Police Department, Oelwein Fire Department, and Oelwein Ambulance.
