A former Northeast Iowa man has died in a traffic accident in South Carolina.

It happened at about 2am Monday (Oct. 3) on Interstate 95 in Clarendon County.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a car traveling the wrong direction, collided head-on with another vehicle.

Two people were killed; one of them was identified as 22 year old Cpl. Jarek Burke of Camp Lejeune, formerly of Cresco. Local funeral arrangements for Burke are being handled at Lindstrom funeral home in Cresco.

The other victim was identified as 48 year old Stephen Shaw of Florence, South Carolina.

The accident remains under investigation.
