Authorities are investigating a deadly accident at a northeast Iowa campground.

Fayette County sheriff's officials received a 911 call, reporting that a vehicle had gone into a pond at Skip-A-Way RV Park and Campground near Clermont, around 9 PM Tuesday (Sept. 4, 2018).

Authorities said Steven Baker Jr., 30, of Elgin, had been driving his 2000 Mitsubishi Sport in the campground, when the vehicle veered out of control, went through a chain link fence, and entered the pond. The depth of the water where the vehicle entered the pond was estimated to be 18-to-20 feet deep.

When emergency personnel arrived, they found the SUV completely submerged.

Emergency workers pulled Baker out of the vehicle, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.
